The 35th Avenue Site is within the three northern Birmingham communities Harriman Park, Collegeville and Fairmont. Through a sampling event overseen by RCRA in 2009 it was determined that there were residential-use properties that had exceedances above Removal Action Levels for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and arsenic. Subsequent comprehensive sampling also indicated that lead was another contaminant of concern.

EPA Region 4 is currently seeking access agreements and sampling approximately 2,000 properties in the three neighborhoods. Where authorized, EPA is conducting a removal action to reduce or eliminate the potential health threat.
