Removal Update for Week Ending June 30, 2023
This week, the EPA’s objective was to continue to
remove contaminated soil from the Site and
backfill the excavated grids with clean fill.
EPA continued excavating soil on-site. To date, after
evaluating the results from the April 2023 sampling event, EPA excavated
contaminated soil from 27 of the 42 affected grids. Confirmation sample results
for 25 of the 42 tentatively completed excavated grids have confirmed that the
Contaminants of Concern concentrations are below cleanup standards.
Confirmation soil sample results for 2 grids are still pending. On June 29 and
30, 2023, a total of 76 samples were taken from 8 grids still to be excavated. To
date, June 30, 2023, approximately 5,400 tons of hazardous waste soil and 6,800
tons of nonhazardous waste have been removed from the Site. This week, 6,972 tons
of clean backfill material to site. To date, 9,512 tons of clean backfill
material have been delivered for site restoration activities.
Site conditions during the week were mostly sunny. Temperatures
ranged from mid-70s in the mornings to low-100s during the afternoon. Wind
gusts ranged from light to medium gusts throughout the week.
There
were no safety issues on-site. Safety focuses included but were not limited to
heat stress, safe driving, hydration, pinch points, communication with
equipment operators, slips, trips, falls, ear protection around equipment,
proper PPE dress-out, the continuous use of water for dust suppression,
housekeeping, hygiene on and off-site, proper rest, and communication amongst
team and individuals on the Site.
Planned Activities
EPA will continue excavating contaminated soil from
the affected processing area grids. The EPA will backfill the excavated grids
with clean fill and finish the remediation by planting native seeds.

Removal Update for the Week ending of August 11,
2023
This week, the EPA’s objective was to finish backfilling
excavated grids, finish placing topsoil over remediated grids, begin seeding
remediated grids, and to begin demobilizing equipment from the Site.
EPA has completed all site excavation and disposal of
affected soils from the Site. To date, after evaluating the results from the
April and June 2023 sampling events, EPA excavated contaminated soil from all
42 affected grids. Confirmation sample results for all 42 tentatively completed
excavated grids have confirmed that the Contaminants of Concern concentrations
are below cleanup standards. There are currently no confirmation soil sample
results pending.
To date, 5,610 tons of hazardous waste soil was

ranged from mid-80s in the mornings to mid-100s during the afternoon. Light,
sporadic showers occurred throughout Dallas on Tuesday, August 8, 2023. Wind
gusts ranged from light to medium gusts from the south throughout the week.
There
were no safety issues on-site. Safety focuses included but were not limited to
heat stress, safe driving, hydration on and off Site, pinch points,
communication with equipment operators, slips, trips, falls, ear protection
around equipment, the continuous use of water for dust suppression,
housekeeping, hygiene on and off-site, proper rest, and communication amongst
team and individuals on the Site.
Planned Activities
Following the completion of Site restoration, EPA will
demobilize all equipment and personnel from the Site. On August 14, 2023, EPA
will reinstall 6 monitoring wells on the Site. EPA will tentatively complete
all removal action efforts on August 17, 2023.

EPA continued excavating soil on-site. To date, after
evaluating the results from the April and June 2023 sampling events, EPA
excavated contaminated soil from all 42 affected grids. Confirmation sample
results for all 42 completed excavated grids have confirmed that the Contaminants
of Concern concentrations are below cleanup standards. There are currently no confirmation
soil sample results pending.
To date July 29, approximately 5,600 tons of
hazardous waste soil and approximately 11,000 tons of nonhazardous waste have
been removed from the Site. To date, approximately 15,500 tons of clean backfill
material have been delivered for site restoration activities.
Site conditions during the week were sunny. Temperatures
ranged from high 70s in the mornings to low-100s during the afternoon. Wind
gusts ranged from light to medium gusts from the south throughout the week.
There
were no safety issues on-site. Safety focuses included but were not limited to
heat stress, safe driving, hydration on and off Site, pinch points,
communication with equipment operators, slips, trips, falls, ear protection
around equipment, the continuous use of water for dust suppression,

Removal Update for the Week ending of July 14, 2023
This week, the EPA’s objective was to continue to
remove contaminated soil from the Site and backfill the excavated grids with
clean fill.
EPA continued excavating soil on-site. To date, after
evaluating the results from the April 2023 sampling event, EPA excavated
contaminated soil from 34 of the 42 affected grids. Confirmation sample results
for 30 of the 42 tentatively completed excavated grids have confirmed that the
Contaminants of Concern concentrations are below cleanup standards.
Confirmation soil sample results for 4 grids are still pending.
Week ending of, July 14, 2023, the final amount of
hazardous waste soil was removed from Site totaling 176 tons. To date July 14,
5,610 tons of hazardous waste soil was removed from Site. To date,
approximately 8,088 tons of nonhazardous waste have been removed from the Site.
To date, 9,994 tons of clean backfill material have been delivered for site
restoration activities. Approximately, 3,500 gallons of liquid waste was
removed from Site as well as miscellaneous items such as two metal drums, light
bulbs, and aerosols.
Site conditions during the week were mostly sunny. Temperatures
ranged from high-70s in the mornings to low-100s during the afternoon. Wind
gusts ranged from light to medium gusts throughout the week.
There
were no safety issues on-site. Safety focuses included but were not limited to

This week, the EPA’s objective was to continue to
remove contaminated soil from the Site and backfill the excavated grids with
clean fill.
EPA continued excavating soil on-site. To date, after
evaluating the results from the April 2023 sampling event, EPA excavated
contaminated soil from 27 of the 42 affected grids. Confirmation sample results
for 26 of the 42 tentatively completed excavated grids have confirmed that the
Contaminants of Concern concentrations are below cleanup standards.
Confirmation soil sample results for 1 grid are still pending. EPA also collected confirmation samples from
grids not located within the process area, but in locations where EPA equipment
has been located throughout the removal operations. 14 confirmation samples
were taken from the north and the northeast side of the Site. Confirmation results
for 5 of the 14 tentatively completed excavated grids have confirmed that the
Contaminants of Concern concentrations are below cleanup standards.
Confirmation soil sample results for 9 grids are still pending.
To date, July 7, 2023, approximately 5,434 tons of
hazardous waste soil and 7,420 tons of nonhazardous waste have been removed
from the Site. To date, 9,994 tons of clean backfill material have been
delivered for site restoration activities.

This week, the EPA’s objective was to continue to
remove contaminated soil from the Site and to begin excavation on grids
associated with the building footprint.
EPA continued removing soil from the Site using subcontracted
disposal trucks, each with the ability to remove approximately 20 tons of soil
at a time. From June 17 to June 23, 109 disposal trucks removed 2,180 tons of
contaminated soil from the site. From June 10 to June 16 , 81 trucks brought 1,116
cubic yards of clean backfill material to site.
Site conditions during the week were mostly sunny
with scattered thunderstorms early in the week. Temperatures ranged from mid-70s
in the mornings to high-90s during the afternoon. Wind gusts ranged from light
to medium gusts throughout the week.
There
were no safety issues on-site. Safety focuses included but were not limited to
heat stress, safe driving, hydration, pinch points, communication with

This week, the EPA’s objective was to continue to
remove contaminated soil from the Site and to begin excavation on grids
associated with the building footprint.
EPA continued removing soil from the Site using subcontracted
disposal trucks, each with the ability to remove approximately 20 tons of soil
at a time. From June 10 to June 16, 110 disposal trucks removed 2,200 tons of
contaminated soil from the site. From June 10 to June 16 , 57 trucks brought 684
cubic yards of clean backfill material to site.
Site conditions during the week were mostly cloudy
with severe thunderstorms early in the week. Temperatures ranged from low-70s
in the mornings to high-90s during the afternoon. Wind gusts ranged from light
to medium gusts throughout the week.
There

Removal Update for the Week of June 9, 2023
This week, the EPA’s objective was to continue to
remove contaminated soil from the Site, to continue the excavation on the
time-critical removal action grids, and to begin backfilling grids associated
with the building footprint.
EPA
continued excavating soil on-site. EPA began removing non-hazardous soil
from the Site using subcontracted disposal trucks, each able to remove
approximately 20 tons of soil at a time. To date, June 9th , 109
disposal trucks removed 2,180 tons of non-hazardous soil from the Site. After evaluating the results from the
April 2023 sampling event, EPA excavated contaminated soil from 18 of the 42
affected processing area grids. Confirmation sample results for 10 of the 11
excavated grids have confirmed that the COC concentrations are below cleanup
standards, or the grids have been excavated to the maximum depth due to
groundwater. Confirmation soil
sample results for 1 grid is still pending. EPA will backfill the excavated
grids with clean fill and finish the remediation by planting native seeds. The
removal action is anticipated to complete August 18, 2023.

the beginning of the week, there were thunderstorms in the afternoon.
Temperatures ranged from the high-60s in the mornings to the low-90s during the

Removal Update for the Week of May 26, 2023
This week, the EPA’s objective was to continue
removing contaminated soil from the Site, excavating grids associated with the
building footprint, and collecting confirmation soil samples.
EPA continued removing soil from the Site using
subcontracted disposal trucks, each able to remove approximately 22 tons of
soil at a time. To date, May 26th, 242 disposal trucks have removed approximately 5,300 tons of hazardous waste soil from the Site. After obtaining the results from the April 2023 sampling event, EPA excavated contaminated soil from 8 of the 42 affected processing area grids. Confirmation sample results for 5 of the 8 excavated grids have confirmed that concentration levels for Site Contaminants of Concern are below cleanup standards.
On May
26, EPA was demobilized from the Site for the holiday break. EPA will
remobilize to the Site on May 30 and continue removal operations on May 31
Site conditions during the week were mostly sunny. Temperatures
ranged from mid-60s in the mornings to low-80s during the afternoon. Wind gusts
were light throughout the week.

Removal Update for the Week ending May 19, 2022
This week, the EPA’s objective was to continue to
remove contaminated soil from the Site and to begin excavation on grids
associated with the building footprint.
EPA continued removing soil from the Site using subcontracted
disposal trucks, each with the ability to remove approximately 22 tons of soil
at a time. To date, May 20th, 204 disposal trucks have removed approximately 4,500 tons of hazardous waste soil from the Site. After obtaining the results from the April 2023 sampling event, EPA began excavating contaminated soil from 3 of the 42 affected processing area grids.
Site conditions during the week were mostly sunny with
rain showers on May 19, 2023. Temperatures ranged from mid-70s in the mornings
to upper-80s during the afternoon. Wind gusts ranged from light to medium gusts
throughout the week.
There
were no safety issues on-site. Safety focuses included but were not limited to
heat stress, safe driving, hydration, pinch points, communication with
equipment operators, slips, trips, falls, ear protection around equipment,
proper PPE dress-out, the continuous use of water for dust suppression,
housekeeping, hygiene on and off-site, proper rest, and communication amongst
team and individuals on the Site.
Planned Activities
EPA will continue excavating contaminated soil from
the affected processing area grids. The EPA will backfill the excavated grids
with clean fill and finish the remediation by planting native seeds.

This week, the EPA’s objective was to continue removing
scrap metal and debris, and to remove contaminated soil from the Site.
EPA continued removing soil from the Site using
subcontracted disposal trucks, each with the ability to remove approximately 22
tons of soil at a time. From May 8 to May 12, 63 disposal trucks removed
approximately 1,386 tons of soil from the Site.
Site conditions during the week were partly cloudy with
rain showers and temperatures ranged from mid-70s in the mornings to upper-80s
during the afternoon. Wind gusts ranged from light to medium gusts throughout the
week.
There
were no safety issues on-site. Safety focuses included but were not limited safe
driving, hydration, pinch points, communication with equipment operators,
slips, trips, falls, ear protection around equipment, proper PPE dress-out, the
continuous use of water for dust suppression, housekeeping, hygiene on and

EPA continued the demolition of the building’s
foundation and removed scrap metal and other debris into roll-off boxes for
disposal. EPA began removing soil from the Site using subcontracted disposal
trucks, each with the ability to remove approximately 22 tons of soil at a
time. From April 25 to May 5, 74 disposal trucks removed approximately 1,628 tons
of soil from the Site.
Site conditions during the week were sunny or partly
cloudy and temperatures ranged from mid-50s in the mornings to upper-80s during
the afternoon. Wind gusts ranged from light to medium gusts throughout the week.
There
were no safety issues on-site. Safety focuses included but were not limited safe

disposal. EPA began removing soil from the Site using subcontracted disposal

time. From April 25 to April 28, 23 disposal trucks removed approximately 506 tons of soil from the Site.
Site conditions during the week were partly cloudy
and temperatures ranged from mid-50s in the mornings to upper-70s during the afternoon.
Light thunderstorms were present throughout the week, and heavy showers began
on April 28. Wind gusts ranged from light to medium gusts throughout the week.
There

On April 10, 2023, the EPA remobilized to the Site
and on April 11, continued removal operations at the Site. This week, the EPA’s
objective was to continue demolishing the building’s foundation, removing scrap
metal and debris, and preparing the Site for an additional removal assessment
on April 17 through April 22.
EPA continued the demolition of the building’s
foundation and removed scrap metal and other debris into roll-off boxes for
disposal. The EPA removed 6 inches of surface soil throughout the building
footprint to assist with the upcoming Site assessment.

and temperatures ranged from mid-50s in the mornings to upper-70s during the afternoon.

Removal Update for the Week ending March 31, 2023
On the week of March 31, 2023, the EPA continued
removal operations at the Site. This week, the EPA’s objective was to continue
demolishing the building’s foundation, sampling the groundwater, plugging the
monitoring and water wells, and removing scrap metal and debris from the Site.
EPA continued the demolition of the building’s
foundation and removed scrap metal and other debris into roll-off boxes for
disposal. EPA demolished a tin metal building on the southern side of the Site
with two empty above-ground vats. EPA collected groundwater samples from 9 on
Site wells, ACMW-01, ACMW-02, ACMW-04, MW-01, MW-09, MW-10, WW-01, WW-02, and
WW-03, on Tuesday, March 28, 2023. The samples were analyzed for hexavalent chromium
and TAL Metals + Hg to follow any potential liquid waste migration. EPA plugged
three water wells with concrete, WW-01, WW-02, and WW-03, and six monitoring
wells with bentonite, ACMW-01, ACMW-02, ACMW-04, MW-01, MW-09, and MW-10, on
Thursday, March 30, 2023.
Site conditions during the beginning of the week were
mostly cloudy, with afternoon sun. Later in the week, there were light showers,
with afternoon sun. Temperatures ranged from lower-40s in the mornings to
lower-70s during the afternoon. Wind gusts ranged from low to medium at the
beginning and medium to high at the end of the week.

On the week of March 24, 2023, the EPA continued
removal operations at the Site. This week, the EPA’s objective was to continue
demolishing the building’s foundation, excavating, cleaning, removing the
underground vats, and removing scrap metal and debris from the Site.
EPA continued the demolition of the building’s
foundation and removed scrap metal and other debris into roll-off boxes for
disposal. Liquid waste was pumped into 14 totes from three sumps. Sump #2 was
entirely removed from the ground, and sump #1 was partially removed, filled
with dirt, and buried. Sump #3 was filled with dirt and covered in the poly
lining.
Site conditions during the beginning of the week were
mostly cloudy, with light showers. Temperatures ranged from lower-40s in the
mornings to upper-70s during the afternoon. On Friday, March 24, 2023,
thunderstorms and heavy rains struck the Dallas and Fort Worth areas from the
southwest. Wind gusts ranged from low to medium gusts throughout the entire
week. Storms did not affect the Site operations, and containment successfully
contained stormwater run-off.
There
were no safety issues on-site. Safety focuses included but was not limited to
safe driving, hydration, pinch points, communication with equipment operators,
slips, trips, falls, ear protection around equipment, proper PPE dress-out and
dress-out locations, the continuous use of water for dust suppression,

sealed. Following removing the concrete flooring and sand foundation, the EPA
will sample the soils underneath the building's footprint to delineate
potential contamination further. After the soil sampling event, the EPA will

EPA will backfill the excavated grids with clean fill and finish the
remediation by planting native seeds.

On the week of March 17, 2023, the EPA continued
removal operations at the Site. EPA’s objective this week was to continue the demolition
of the building’s foundation, characterize solid waste at the Site, and to
remove scrap metal and debris from the Site.
EPA continued the demolition of the of the building’s
foundation and continued to remove scrap metal and other debris into roll-off
boxes for disposal. Three soil samples were collected by the EPA and sent to
Clean Harbors in Waynoka, Oklahoma to characterize solid waste before waste is
removed from the Site.
Site conditions during the beginning of the week were
mostly cloudy. Temperatures ranged from lower to lower-40’s in the mornings to upper-70’s
during the afternoon. On Thursday, March 16, 2023, high winds, thunderstorms,
and heavy rains struck the Dallas and Fort Worth Area from the northwest. Wind
gusts ranged from medium to high gusts, with winds as high as 58 mph. Storms
did not affect the Site operations and containment on Site successfully
contained stormwater run-off. Winds at the end of the week were from the north
ranging from medium to high gusts.

Removal Update for the Week ending March 11, 2023
On March 4, 2023, the EPA continued removal
operations at the Site. EPA continued the demolition of the building's
foundation at the Lane Plating Works, Inc., Site. EPA's objective this week was
to sample water wells within the processing area and analyze samples for Heavy
Metals including Mercury and Hexavalent Chromium in order to establish a
baseline of analytical levels of the contaminated perched groundwater before
the removal of underground plating vats. EPA will continue the demolition of
the building's foundation, and to remove liquid waste from vats from the
northern area of the former electroplating room.
On March 8 and March 9, 2023, EPA conducted water
well sampling on 9 wells located throughout the property. The wells were
sampled for Heavy Metals including Mercury and Hexavalent Chromium.
EPA continued the demolition of the of the building's
foundation The EPA continued to remove scrap metal and other debris into
roll-off boxes for disposal and prepared the Site for demobilization. The EPA
finished the removal of liquid waste from the vats and collected approximately 1,050
gallons of liquid waste. Liquid waste was placed on poly totes and placed
within the containment boom on the southern side of the Site until properly
removed to a disposal facility.
Site conditions during the beginning of the week were
mostly sunny. Temperatures ranged from upper-40's in the mornings to lower-80's
during the afternoon. At the middle of the week, thunderstorms, and heavy rains
struck the Dallas and Fort Worth Area from the west. Storms did not affect the
Site operations and containment on Site successfully contained stormwater
run-off. Winds at the end of the week were from the south ranging from medium
to light gusts from the south.

Removal Update for the Week ending March 3, 2023
From February 18 to February 27, 2023, Site
operations were temporarily halted due to a planned break. Security services
continued 24-hour surveillance on-site. During the planned break, removal
trucks disposed of two roll-off containers full of scrap and debris. On
February 27, The EPA remobilized to the Site to continue the Time Critical
Removal Action (TCRA).
On February 28, 2023, the EPA continued removal operations
at the Site. EPA continued the demolition of the building's foundation at the
Lane Plating Works, Inc., Site. EPA's objective this week was to remobilize to
the Site, continue the demolition of the building's foundation, and to remove
liquid waste from vats from the northern area of the former electroplating
room.

Removal Update for the Week ending February 17,
2023
EPA began and completed the demolition of the
concrete flooring of the main building structure at the Lane Plating Works,
Inc., Site. EPA’s objective this week was to start and finish the demolition of
the concrete flooring of the main building structure and to prepare the Site
for EPA’s temporary demobilization on February 18, 2023.
EPA completed the demolition of the concrete flooring
of the main building structure on February 17, 2023. The EPA continued to
remove scrap metal and other debris into roll-off boxes for disposal and
prepared the Site for demobilization. During the EPA’s leave from Site,
security contractors will be at the Site for 24-hour surveillance.

mostly sunny. Temperatures ranged from lower to lower-30’s in the mornings to mid-50’s
during the afternoon. At the beginning of the week, winds were from the northwest,

Removal Update for the Week Ending February 10,
2023
EPA began and completed the wet demolition of the
main building structure at the Lane Plating Works, Inc., Site. EPA’s objective
this week was to start and finish the wet demolition of the main building structure
and prepare to begin the concrete foundation removal.
A drainage berm, about 3 feet high with a surface
area of approximately 8,000 square feet, was
constructed on February 07, 2023, on the southeast side of the Site in response
to a release of approximately 3 gallons of chromium-contaminated sludge. The
berm caught any runoff, specifically during heavy rain periods. EPA completed the
wet demolition of the main building structure on February 08, 2023. There were
no elevated particulate readings throughout the wet demolition.
Site conditions during the beginning of the week were
mostly cloudy and windy, with scattered thunderstorms. Throughout the rest of
the week, Site conditions were mostly rainy and windy, with one sunny day.
Temperatures ranged from lower to mid-30’s in the mornings to lower 60’s during
the afternoon. At the beginning of the week, winds were from the southeast,
ranging from medium to low gusts. Winds at the end of the week were from the south
ranging from medium to high gusts.
There were no safety issues on-site. Safety focuses
included, but were not limited to, decontamination of gear when leaving the hot
zone, safe driving during inclement weather, proper winter gear during work,
hydration during colder weather, slips, trips, falls, operations during
inclement weather, working from heights, proper PPE dress out and dress out
locations, the continuous use of water while demolishing, housekeeping, hygiene
on and off-site, proper rest, and communication amongst team and individuals
on-site.
Planned Activities
The EPA will finish removing the scrap metal from the
main building structure and begin breaking the foundation on February 13, 2023.
Following the demolition of the foundation, the EPA will begin excavating
contaminated soil from the affected processing area grids. The EPA will
backfill the excavated grids with clean fill and finish the remediation by
planting native seeds.

EPA completed the removal of transite roof panels and
debris at the Lane Plating Works, Inc., Site. EPA’s objective this week was to
finish the removal of transite roof panels from the building and prepare to
begin the wet demolition of the main building structure.
EPA completed removing transite roof panels from the building
and finished air sampling the perimeter of the Site boundary for asbestos on
January 30, 2023. To date, samples have shown no detections of asbestos fibers.
Asbestos sampling operations will continue until the removal of the transite
roof has been completed.
Site conditions during the beginning of the week were
mostly cloudy with ice, sleet, and rain. Due to ice and sleet, Site operations were
halted from January 31, 2023 to February 2, 2023. Throughout the rest of the
week, Site conditions were mostly sunny. Temperatures ranged from lower to
mid-30’s in the mornings to lower 50’s during the afternoon. At the beginning
of the week, winds were from the northwest, ranging from medium to high gusts. Winds
at the end of the week were from the northeast ranging from medium to light
gusts.

of the office building.
EPA continued removing transite roof panels from the
electroplating room and continued air sampling the perimeter of the Site

transite roof has been completed.
On January 19th , 2023, EPA Regional Administrator
Nance, hosted US Congresswoman Crockett, City leaders, and Community Advisory
Group members for a demolition kick-off covered by the press. Following the
demolition kick-off event, a community meeting was held at the Highland Hills
Branch Public Library, which also included members from the public.
Site conditions were mostly sunny during the week
with light rain in the beginning of the week. Temperatures ranged from mid to
upper 40’s in the mornings to mid to upper 70’s during the afternoon. Winds
were predominately from the northeast, ranging from medium to light gusts.
There were no safety issues on-site. Safety focuses
included, but were not limited to, working from heights, proper Personal
Protection Equipment dress out, handling of asbestos containing materials
(ACM), the continuous use of water while working with ACM, housekeeping,
hygiene on and off site, proper rest, and communication amongst team and
individuals on-site.

Removal Update for the Week Ending January 13,
2023
EPA continued the removal of transite roof panels and
clearing and grubbing vegetation and debris on the Lane Plating Works, Inc.,
Site. EPA’s objective this week was to be remove vegetation and debris to clear
paths for larger equipment to work around the perimeter of the building and to
finish the removal of transite roof panels from the building.
EPA removal operations consisted of clearing and
grubbing of the remaining vegetation and debris from around the main building. EPA
finished the removal of the transite roof panels from the front office of the
building and began removing transite roof panels from the electroplating room.
During the removal of the transite roof panels, EPA conducted air sampling along
the perimeter of the Site boundary for asbestos. To date, asbestos air samples
have demonstrated that removal operations have not caused the release of
asbestos fibers at the Site. Asbestos sampling operations will continue until
the removal of the transite roof has been completed.
Site conditions were mostly sunny during the week,
with no rain. Temperatures ranged from mid to upper 30’s in the mornings to mid
to upper 50’s during the afternoon. On January 12, 2023, there were heavy winds
on site ranging from fifteen to thirty miles an hour. Throughout the rest of
the week, winds were predominately from the northeast, ranging from medium to
light gusts.
There were no safety issues on-site. Safety focuses
included, but were not limited to, working from heights, proper personal
protective equipment, handling of asbestos containing materials (ACM), the
continuous use of water while working with ACM, housekeeping, hygiene on and off
site, and proper rest.
Planned
Activities
EPA will continue to remove the transite roof panels
from the building until it is completed. EPA community outreach team members along with a
representative of the Lane Plating Community Advisory Group will distribute a
removal action fact sheet to the neighboring Arden Terrace community on
Tuesday, January 17th.
Following the removal and disposal of the transite
roof panels, EPA will begin the wet demolition of the main building
structure. Following the demolition of the main building, EPA will
begin excavating contaminated soil from the soil of the removal action area of
the site. EPA will then backfill the excavated soil with clean fill
material and complete the removal action by planting native grasses, trees, and
brush.
EPA, in cooperation with the Lane
Plating Community Advisory Group (LP CAG) and the City of Dallas,
invites members of the nearby community to commemorate the demolition and cleanup of the Lane Plating
Superfund site located in southern Dallas, TX.
During the event,
members of communities affected by the site are invited to join us in
celebrating our partnership with residents and local organizations to strengthen
environmental and public health protection. The demolition of the building and
continued time critical removal of contamination are major steps towards the
site clean-up. The special event will be held:

Removal Update for the Week ending January 6, 2022
The EPA team remobilized to site on January 3, 2023,
to continue Removal Action activities at the Lane Plating Works, Inc., Site.
The primary objectives this week were to begin the removal of asbestos
containing transite roofing panels and to continue air monitoring and sampling
operations. To accomplish these objectives, Site personnel removed vegetation
and debris to clear a path for larger equipment to work around the perimeter of
the building.
On January 4, 2023, the EPA team continued work
on-site which consisted of clearing and grubbing of the remaining vegetation
and debris from around the main building. On January 5, the EPA team began the
removal of the transite roof panels at the office building. During the removal
of the transite roof panels, the EPA team conducted air sampling along the
perimeter of the Site boundary for asbestos. Asbestos air sampling will
continue until the removal of the transite roof has been completed. The EPA On
Scene Coordinator hosted Dallas City Councilmember Tennell Atkins, Dallas Office
of Environmental Quality & Sustainability, and the Community Advisory Group
Chairman on the Site to receive a site briefing regarding the planned removal
phases of the project.

with no rain. Temperatures ranged from mid to upper 30’s in the mornings to mid
