EPA is continuing emergency removal actions at this site during the repackaging, transportation, and removal of flammable magnesium materials. Magnesium generators, who previously supplied Remacor with recyclable magnesium and magnesium alloys, are removing their materials from the site. Magnesium generators, Meridian and Intermet, have subcontractors conducting work at the site. ERRS contractor (Guardian) has completed lab-packing operations and is doing repairs as needed on site. SPX Contech, from Portage, MI, is coordinating with EPA for removal of their magnesium materials. EPA and PADEP officials continue to control access to the site in addition to coordinating the activities of the various generators.

Meridian’s subcontractor, URS, continued to repackage magnesium material from super sacks into drums. A total of 48 full-size super sacks were repackaged into drums. URS received 1 truckload of empty drums consisting of 360 drums which were loaded off the truck on to pallets at 4 per pallet. URS filled 40 pallets @ 4 drums per pallet using 30 full and 2-1/2 super sacks. START utilized a pDR (personal DataRam) unit to conduct air monitoring for particulates in the repackaging area. The average reading for the workday was 0.022 mg/m3. OSHA’s PEL for total particulates is 15 mg/m3.
Intermet’s contractor, NIAPRO, continued to inspect drums and change lids, repackage drums as needed and replace broken or damaged pallets. NIAPRO’s staging area is between Building 7 and Building 2 inside of gate 2 in the employee parking lot area. NIAPRO also loaded 1 truck with 36 pallets @ 4 drums a pallet an estimated weight of 36,000 pounds. The trucking company is Buffalo Fuel Corporation, Niagara Falls, NY and the load is assigned to NIAPRO, Niagara Falls, NY.
ERRS contractor, Guardian Environmental Services, did repairs as needed to secure site.

Meridian’s subcontractor, URS, continued to repackage magnesium material from super sacks into drums. URS filled 45 pallets @ 4 drums per pallet using 28-full, 8-1/2, and 17 ¼ super sacks. URS shipped off 2 loads of product using National Express, Shelbyville, TN as their carrier with the loads consigned to Magpro, Camden, TN. The loads consisted of 104 pallets with a combined estimated weight of 65,000 pounds. START utilized a pDR (personal DataRam) unit to conduct air monitoring for particulates in the repackaging area. The average reading for the workday was 0.052 mg/m3. OSHA’s PEL for total particulates is 15 mg/m3.
Intermet’s contractor, NIAPRO, continued to inspect and stage truckloads of drums which are pending disposal. . NIAPRO’s staging area is between Building 7 and Building 2 inside of gate 2 in the employee parking lot area. NIAPRO also loaded 1 truck with 34 pallets @ 4 drums a pallet an estimated weight of 34,000 pounds. The trucking company is Buffalo Fuel Corporation, Niagara Falls, NY and the load is assigned to NIAPRO, Niagara Falls, NY.
ERRS contractor, Guardian Environmental Services, repaired the fence on the southwest boundary of the property line. ERRS also posted no trespassing signs on trees along the length of the site shore line. ERRS repaired the gate north of Building 2 and packed up all their equipment in preparation for demobilizing the morning of 5/04/07. ERRS subcontractor New Castle Lock & Key began placement of security monitor and ran wires for security camera. New Castle Lock & Key will finish installing security equipment on 5/10/07 the expected date for all equipment ordered to arrive.

Meridian’s subcontractor, URS, continued to repackage magnesium material from super sacks into drums. URS transported the last 100 super sacks out of Building 2 to Building 7 where the super sacks will be repackaged into drums. These were the last of Meridians super sacks in Building 2. URS shipped off 2 loads of product 1 using National Express, Shelbyville, TN and the other Autumn Trucking, Warren, OH as the carriers. Both loads were consigned to Magpro, Camden, TN. The loads consisted of 104 pallets with a combined estimated weight of 70,200 pounds. START utilized a pDR (personal DataRam) unit to conduct air monitoring for particulates in the repackaging area. The average reading for the workday was 0.102 mg/m3. OSHA’s PEL for total particulates is 15 mg/m3.

Meridian (generator) will continue to have their subcontractor, URS, repackage and dispose their magnesium material from the site. Meridian expects to be completed with this task no later than COB 5/11/07.
Intermet (generator) will continue to have their subcontractor, NIAPRO, inspect, segregate, and dispose of their magnesium material from the site.
SPX Contech (generator) will submit a workplan/health and safety plan to EPA for the handling and removal of their drums from the site.
ERRS contractor Guardian expects to be on site 5/10/07 to oversee the placement of site security cameras.
EPA will continue to coordinate with magnesium waste generators for the safe and appropriate removal of the material from the site. EPA will continue to coordinate with all local, state, and federal agencies.
