EPA is continuing emergency removal actions at this site during the repackaging, transportation, and removal of flammable magnesium materials. Magnesium generators, who previously supplied Remacor with recyclable magnesium and magnesium alloys, are removing their materials from the site. Magnesium generators, Meridian and Intermet, have subcontractors conducting work at the site. The EPA has been in communication with American Iron & Metal about removal of their product in the near future. ERRS contractor (Guardian) is on site to complete video security installation and repairs of roof. SPX Contech, from Portage, MI, is coordinating with EPA for removal of their magnesium materials. EPA and PADEP officials continue to control access to the site in addition to coordinating the activities of the various generators.

Meridian’s subcontractor, URS, continued to repackage magnesium material from super sacks into drums. A total of 25-full, 8-1/2, 3-1/4, size super sacks were repackaged into 45 pallets @ 4 drums a pallet. URS loaded 1 truck with 52 pallets @ 4 drums a pallet with a estimated weight of 36,400 pounds. The trucking company was Nationwide Express and the load was consigned to Magpro, Camden, TN. URS has completed repacking all super sacks and will load the remaining pallets on 5/10/07 to be transported to Magpro, Camden, TN. URS began cleanup of repackaging area in Building 7 as well as Building 2.
Intermet’s contractor, NIAPRO, continued to inspect drums and change lids, repackage drums as needed and replace broken or damaged pallets. NIAPRO’s staging area is adjacent to Building 8. NIAPRO staged and re-banded 2 truckloads of pallets in preparation for shipping. NIAPRO is expecting to ship 2 truckloads of product on 5/10/07.
ERRS contractor, Guardian Environmental Services mobilized to the site and prepared target work areas for early start on 5/10/07.
EPA’s OSC Downie continues to control access to the site in addition to coordinating the activities of the various generators in conjunction with PADEP.
PADEP’s Hoffman and Morettini mobilized to site to assist in management of site activities in addition to assisting START in gathering samples. PADEP’s Hoffman and Morettini demobilized.
START attended daily safety meetings, assisted as needed, conducted written and photographic documentation, and monitored activities conducted on site. START also began to take samples from previously targeted areas in various locations around the perimeter of Building 9.

Meridian’s subcontractor, URS, continued their cleanup efforts concentrating on the floor in Building 2. URS shipped its last load of product using Celadon, Indianapolis, IN as their carrier with the loads consigned to Magpro, Camden, TN. The load consisted of 41 pallets @ 4 drums a pallet with an estimated weight of 28,700 pounds. It is estimated that Meridian has shipped 7,116 drums, 47 Mag Totes and 10 bulk truckloads of product off site with an estimated gross weight of 1,289,700 pounds.
Intermet’s contractor, NIAPRO, continued to inspect and stage truckloads of drums which are pending disposal. . NIAPRO continues to stage in the lot adjacent to Building 8. NIAPRO also loaded 2 trucks with 34 pallets @ 4 drums a pallet per truck at an estimated total weight of 65,000 pounds. The trucking company is Speed Motor Express and the load is consigned to Speed Global Services both are located in, Buffalo, NY.
EPA’s ERRS contractor, Guardian Environmental Services, oversaw the placement of surveillance camera put in place by their subcontractor New Castle Lock & Key. ERRS built a protective walk way outside of the door leading from the main office to building 7. ERRS also built barriers to limit access to areas where hazards exist in Building 7 and 9.
EPA’s OSC Downie continues to control access to the site, and coordinate the activities of the various generators in conjunction with PADEP.
PADEP Kelly Burch Director of Region 6 and Mike Sherman Deputy Secretary of Field Operations were given a tour by OSC Downie and PADEP Holler. They were made aware of recent Rad surveys, sampling currently being done, and the progress of PRP efforts to remove their product.

Meridian’s subcontractor, URS, continued to clean the areas where they processed the super sacks and finished with the cleanup of Building 2. URS shipped the remainder of empty drums, scales, and equipment belonging to Meridian.
Intermet’s contractor, NIAPRO, continued to inspect drums and change lids, repackage drums as needed and replace broken or damaged pallets. NIAPRO’s continues to work in the area adjacent to Building 8. NIAPRO loading 1 truck with 34 pallets @ 4 drums a pallet with an estimated weight of 32,000 pounds. EPA will continue to coordinate with magnesium waste generators for the safe and appropriate removal of the material from the site. EPA will continue to coordinate with all local, state, and federal agencies.
