EPA is continuing emergency removal actions at this site during the repackaging, transportation, and removal of flammable magnesium materials. Magnesium generators, who previously supplied Remacor with recyclable magnesium and magnesium alloys, are removing their materials from the site. Magnesium generator, Intermet, has its subcontractor conducting work at the site. The EPA has been in communication with American Iron & Metal about removal of their product in the near future. ERRS contractor (Guardian) has completed video security installation and repairs of roof. SPX Contech, from Portage, MI, is coordinating with EPA for removal of their magnesium materials. EPA and PADEP officials continue to control access to the site in addition to coordinating the activities of the various generators.

Meridians Rental fork truck was picked up by the rental company, V.I.T.
Intermet’s contractor, NIAPRO, continues to inspect drums and change lids, repackage drums as needed and replace broken or damaged pallets. NIAPRO’s staging area adjacent to Building 8 has been moved due to concern of high dust concentrations. NIAPRO’s fork trucks continue to be stuck in the soft soil where Intermet’s pallets are staged. NIAPRO staged and re-banded 2 truckloads of pallets in preparation for shipping and has 16 truckloads of 34 pallets per load @ 4 drums per pallet ready to be shipped off site. NIAPRO is expecting to ship 1 truckload of product on 5/15/07. PADEP Hoffman and START tested the water in Intermet’s drums. The pH was high in 4 drums tested (pH-11). NIAPRO was notified and is using rubber gloves and extra precautions during drum handling.
OSC Downie in conjunction with PADEP continues to control access to the site in addition to coordinating the activities of the various generators.
PADEP Hoffman mobilized to site to assist in management of site activities and assist START with collecting soil samples that will be screened for inorganic analytes using a portable X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) detector. PADEP Hoffman demobilized.
START attended daily safety meetings, provided technical and administrative support, conducted written and photographic documentation, and monitored activities conducted on site.

Intermet’s contractor, NIAPRO, continued to inspect and stage truckloads of drums which are pending disposal. NIAPRO staged 3 truckloads of pallets and at present has 19 truckloads ready to be shipped off site. A truckload consists of 34 pallets per truck @ 4 drums per pallet. NIAPRO’s truck was delayed and was rescheduled for 5/16/07.
OSC Downie mobilized to site to conduct oversight and administration of activities. OSC Downie demobilized.
PADEP Hoffman mobilized to site to assist with oversight of activities. PADEP Hoffman and START investigated a drum in Building 2 inside a control room. The drum was found to be empty.
