EPA is continuing emergency removal actions at this site during the repackaging, transportation, and removal of flammable magnesium materials. Magnesium generators, who previously supplied Remacor with recyclable magnesium and magnesium alloys, are removing their materials from the site. Magnesium generator, Intermet, will be off site for two weeks before resuming transporting pallets off site. Magretech is looking at orphaned drums to see if they can use them in their operation. START is conducting sampling and using an Innov-x Alpha 4000 S for readings of soil. SPX Contech, from Portage, MI, and MJ Metals of Bridgeport, CT, are coordinating with EPA for removal of their magnesium materials. To date 12 generators have removed, or are in various stages of planning in order to remove, their drums off site. EPA and PADEP officials continue to control access to the site in addition to coordinating the activities of the various generators.

American Iron & Metal’s (AIM) (generator), subcontractor MHF, began repackaging their drums inside of gate 1. The drums were put into super sacks some 3 and some 4 drums a piece. The super sacks were placed on pallets with a plastic liner installed inside. The super sacks have a tie string on top and after the drums were placed inside the string was synched tight. MHF along with 2 personnel from AIM repackaged 160 drums.
EPA’s OSC Downie mobilized to site for oversight and coordination of site activities.
EPA’s ERRS contractor (Guardian) mobilized to site to drop off their equipment so they can began work the morning of 6/12/07.
PADEP Hoffman mobilized to site to assist in site overview and sampling. PADEP Hoffman demobilized.
START assisted as needed, conducted written and photographic documentation, and monitored activities conducted on site.

American Iron & Metal’s (AIM) (generator), subcontractor MHF, began repackaging their drums inside of gate 2. AIM used super sacks from MHF that held 8 drums a piece. AIM rented a second barrel clamp and used both of their fork trucks to fill the super sacks. MHF along with 2 personnel from AIM repackaged 300 drums..
PADEP’s Hoffman mobbed to the site to help in oversight and identification of remaining sample locations.
ERRS contractor Guardian cleaned Building 8 and removed empty boxes that could be a source of fuel for a fire. ERRS also drummed loose magnesium that was on the floor, around equipment and on the outside of the building.
START assisted as needed, conducted written and photographic documentation, and monitored activities conducted on site. START also placed remaining flags for phase II and III sampling.
Intermet’s (generator) subcontractor, NIAPRO, plans to be on site the week of 6/25/07 to resume shipping drums off site.
American Iron & Metal will repackage all their drums and plans to be off site 2 to 3 weeks before shipping them off site.
SPX Contech (generator) will submit a workplan/health and safety plan to EPA for the handling and removal of their drums from the site.
EPA will continue to coordinate with magnesium waste generators for the safe and appropriate removal of the material from the site. EPA will continue to coordinate with all local, state, and federal agencies.
