EPA is continuing emergency removal actions at this site during the repackaging, transportation, and removal of flammable magnesium materials. Magnesium generators, who previously supplied Remacor with recyclable magnesium and magnesium alloys, are removing their materials from the site. Magnesium generator, Intermet, is on site to continue segregating and weighing before shipping their pallets. Magretech is looking at orphaned drums to see if they can use them in their operation. ERRS contractor Guardian is on site. START is conducting sampling and using an Innov-x Alpha 4000 S for readings of soil. SPX Contech, from Portage, MI, and MJ Metals of Bridgeport, CT, are coordinating with EPA for removal of their magnesium materials. To date 12 generators have removed, or are in various stages of planning in order to remove, their drums off site. EPA and PADEP officials continue to control access to the site in addition to coordinating the activities of the various generators.

Intermet’s subcontractor NIAPRO dropped off two fork lifts so they could begin work on the morning of 6/19/07. NIAPRO will weigh the rest of their pallets and segregate them into truckloads. Due to the weight of some of the pallets some of the truckloads previously segregated were over weight. NIAPRO will spend the rest of the week weighing pallets.
EPA’s OSC Downie mobilized to site for oversight and coordination of site activities.
START attended a morning safety meeting held by EPA’s ERRS contractor (Guardian). Guardian finished removing sludge from the bottom of the acid tank. They filled 5-55 gallon drums and staged 2-55 gallon drums to flush the tank the morning of 6/19/07.
PADEP Hoffman mobilized to site to assist in site overview and sampling. PADEP Hoffman demobilized.

Intermet’s subcontractor NIAPRO began weighing pallets in order to segregate them into truckloads under 40,000 pounds. NIAPRO segregated and weighed 2 truckloads of pallets.
Meridian’s subcontractor Labor Ready was on site to begin the process of identifying and moving pallets. The pallets will be centrally located. Once all the pallets are in a central location the drums will be evaluated to see if they need to be re-drummed or lids need to be added for shipment off site.

ERRS contractor Guardian completed washing out the Acid tank. Guardian also moved broken pallets from Building 7 and finished cleaning and organizing.
Thomas B. Sturgess III of Pennsylvania Drilling Company arrived at the site to identify locations for the 4 proposed monitoring wells. A request for proposal was sent out to potential vendors and Mr. Sturgess’s company was one such vendor. Mr. Sturgess was escorted to the 4 potential drilling locations by OSC Downie, PADEP Hoffman, and START.

Intermet’s subcontractor NIAPRO continued weighing and segregating pallets for future shipment off site. NIAPRO segregated and weighed 3 truckloads of pallets.
Meridian’s subcontractor Labor Ready continued the process of identifying and moving pallets to a central location.
Sky Bank a holder of assets at Remacor arrived at the site to look at the condition of all its assets. There were four personnel from Sky Bank Jennifer Cullen, Paul DeAument, Tim Cromwell and, Burdette Wilber. Sky Bank was escorted by OSC’s Downie and Easton, PADEP Holler, and START. The Sky Bank personnel looked at equipment in Buildings 7, 8, and 9 as well as equipment located on the grounds. Sky Bank will make a determination on how and when they will retrieve their assets and a notification will be given to the EPA and DEP.

PADEP’s Holler, Morettini, and Hoffman mobilized to the site to help in oversight and a site tour of Sky Bank personnel for assessment of equipment belonging to Sky Bank. PADEP’s Holler, Morettini, and Hoffman demobilized.
ERRS contractor Guardian began Hazard categorizing of laboratory samples and chemicals. Guardian began their process of categorizing and lab packing samples that will be shipped off site for proper disposal, at a later date.

Intermet’s (generator) subcontractor, NIAPRO, plans to begin shipping pallets off site the week of 6/25/07.
American Iron & Metal will be off site 2 to 3 weeks to secure transportation and a receiver for their materials.
MJ Metals (generator) will submit a workplan/health and safety plan to EPA for the handling and removal of their drums from the site.
SPX Contech (generator) will submit a workplan/health and safety plan to EPA for the handling and removal of their drums from the site.
EPA will continue to coordinate with magnesium waste generators for the safe and appropriate removal of the material from the site. EPA will continue to coordinate with all local, state, and federal agencies.
