EPA is continuing emergency removal actions at this site during the repackaging, transportation, and removal of flammable magnesium materials. Magnesium generators, who previously supplied Remacor with recyclable magnesium and magnesium alloys, are removing their materials from the site. Magretech is looking at orphaned drums to see if they can use them in their operation. ERRS contractor Guardian is on site finishing lab packing operations. START is monitoring drilling operations being done by Pennsylvania Drilling Company. SPX Contech, from Portage, MI, has been in contact with the EPA in preparation for the removal of its magnesium material. MJ Metals of Bridgeport, CT, is coordinating with the EPA for removal of its magnesium materials. To date 12 generators have removed, or are in various stages of planning in order to remove, their drums off site. EPA and PADEP officials continue to control access to the site in addition to coordinating the activities of the various generators.

ERRS contractor Guardian mobilized to site dropped off their equipment and began Haz-Catting to identify chemicals and compounds so they can be packed for shipment off site. ERRS also began to identify task needed to be done during the week.

Pennsylvania Drilling Company began drilling monitoring wells. They are to install three stickup mounted, 2-inch inside-diameter PVC overburden wells to a total depth of
approximately 65 feet, and one to a depth of approximately 80 feet using hollow-stem
continuous flight auger drilling method or other method recommended by driller and approved by START. The minimum/nominal borehole diameter shall be 8 inches to allow for minimum 2-inch annular space around the riser and well screen. A split spoon sampler supplied by the PA Drilling will be used to retrieve soil cores at five-foot depth intervals from grade to total well depth. This project involves environmental sampling and it is anticipated that generated soil cuttings and cores will be spread on the ground surface by PA Drilling in the vicinity of the wells. Cuttings and cores will be field-screened with an organic vapor detector (PID) and radiation meter by START personnel. If elevated air monitoring readings are obtained, cuttings and cores will be placed in drums supplied by the drillers. Monitoring Well 1 (MW-1) was completed at a depth of 35 feet 25 feet less than the anticipated depth of 60 feet.

American Iron & Metal has MHF Logistic Solutions arranging trucks to have their material shipped to Montreal, Canada.
MJ Metals (generator) will submit a workplan/health and safety plan to EPA for the handling and removal of their drums from the site.
SPX Contech (generator) plans to have representatives from Contech and Nixon Peabody on site 7/18-7/19/07 to inventory its material for preparation to ship off site.
ERRS contractor Guardian plans to demobilize on 7/13/07 and remobilize on 7/23/07 to ship the remainder of the lab packing material.
PA American Water plans to replace preexisting lines with one line coming off their main line located east of the site. PA American Water plans on beginning the work sometime during the week of 7/9/07.
EPA will continue to coordinate with magnesium waste generators for the safe and appropriate removal of the material from the site. EPA will continue to coordinate with all local, state, and federal agencies.
