Site Description
EPA is continuing emergency removal actions at this site during the repackaging, transportation, and removal of flammable magnesium materials.  Magnesium generators, who previously supplied Remacor with recyclable magnesium and magnesium alloys, are removing their materials from the site.  Magretech is looking at orphaned drums to see if they can use them in their operation.  START has finished monitoring drilling operations done by Pennsylvania Drilling Company.   SPX Contech, from Portage, MI, has been on site to identify and re-stage their product.  Winters Performance Products, Inc. was on site to identify its product and is looking at shipping its product in the near future.  MJ Metals of Bridgeport, CT, is coordinating with the EPA for removal of its magnesium materials.  To date 12 generators have removed, or are in various stages of planning in order to remove, their drums off site.   EPA and PADEP officials continue to control access to the site in addition to coordinating the activities of the various generators.

SPX Contech continued to examine and stage their drums for future shipment off site.  SPX Contech also did a walk through to identify any drums that may belong to them.  

OSC Downie mobilized to site for oversight and access control.

PADEP Moretinni and Hoffman mobilized to site to assist in oversight and Monitoring of wells being drilled.  

START subcontractor, PA Drilling Company, completed construction and development of MW1–MW4.  Drillers cleaned and decontaminated all equipment used during drilling.

START assisted as needed, conducted written and photographic documentation, and monitored activities conducted on site.    

7/19/07
SPX Contech did a final count of their drums which had been identified and re-staged for shipment.  The final count was 339 drums identified as belonging to SPX.

Dominic Guite of Pratt & Whitney was on site with subcontractors from MHF to do a walk through of areas that needed to be cleaned and work to be done before their product can be shipped off site.

OSC Downie was on site for oversight and access control.  OSC Downie demobilized.

PADEP Morettini, and Hoffman mobilized to site to assist in site overview and coordination of site activities.  PADEP Morettini, and Hoffman demobilized.

START assisted as needed, conducted written and photographic documentation, and monitored activities conducted on site.

PADEP Wozniak was on site to turn off air samplers for the weekend.  PADEP Wozniak demobilized.

Next Steps
American Iron & Metal (AIM) has MHF Logistic Solutions arranging trucks to have their material shipped to Montreal, Canada.  AIM also plans to have their subcontractors on site the week of the 7/23/07 to clean their areas of debris and oil stains.    

MJ Metals (generator) will submit a workplan/health and safety plan to EPA for the handling and removal of their drums from the site.

ERRS contractor Guardian plans to mobilize to site on 7/23/07 to ship the remainder of the lab packing material.

EPA will continue to coordinate with magnesium waste generators for the safe and appropriate removal of the material from the site.  EPA will continue to coordinate with all local, state, and federal agencies.
