EPA is continuing emergency removal actions at this site during the repackaging, transportation, and removal of flammable magnesium materials. Magnesium generators, who previously supplied Remacor with recyclable magnesium and magnesium alloys, are removing their materials from the site. Intermet has suspended shipping material until further notice. SPX Contech will be repackaging its material in preparation to ship it off site.
EPA’s ERRS contractor Guardian Environmental Services, Inc. (GES) is preparing to ship RAD drums which have been relocated from Building #2 to Building #7. ERRS is also reacting drum pile #4 for the second time and preparing to start reacting material from Building #2. PADEP is providing technical and oversight support at the site. EPA START contractor TechLaw is providing technical and administrative support to EPA as well as doing a full site assessment. EPA and PADEP officials continue to control access to the site in addition to coordinating the activities of the various generators.

EPA’s OSC Jack Downie mobilized to site for oversight of activities and site entry.
PADEP Gary Wozniak and Mariruth Hoffman mobilized to site. PADEP Wozniak Emergency Response Program Manager Northwest Field Operations met with OSC Jack Downie. PADEP Wozniak was also given a site tour by OSC Downie and was accompanied by PADEP Hoffman and START. PADEP Wozniak and Hoffman demobilized.
START attended the morning safety meeting held by ERRS contractor Guardian Environmental, Inc. ERRS began to react drum pile #4 for a second time. Drum pile #4 has gone through the reaction process once but after it dried it started to react and smolder again. The pile had been allowed to react on its own for approximately 6 weeks. The decision was made by the OSC and RM to run the material through the process again to see if the material could be made inert. The material will be monitored after it is run though the reaction process again and if deemed inert will be stock piled for future shipment off site.
START conducted written/photographic documentation, and monitored activities conducted on site. START demobilized.

OSC and START attended the morning safety meeting held by ERRS contractor Guardian Environmental, Inc. ERRS continues to react drum pile #4. START has been monitoring the material with a MultiRae for Lower Explosive Limit (LEL), Carbon Monoxide (CO), and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s). ERRS is reacting smaller quantities of the material and allowing it to remain wet for a longer period of time. ERRS also had potential bidders on site to bid on the disposal of the fifteen 250-ton piles generated from the cleanup of the burn debris debris field.

START assisted the EPA in conducting written/photographic documentation, and monitoring activities conducted on site.
No PRP activity is presently occurring on site. All PRP’s have suspended work until the weather will allow repackaging and removal operations to proceed safely.
ERRS has staged RAD drums in Building 7 for future disposal.
EPA will continue to coordinate with magnesium waste generators for the safe and appropriate removal of the material from the site. EPA will continue to coordinate with all local, state, and federal agencies.
