EPA is continuing emergency removal actions at this site during the repackaging, transportation, and removal of flammable magnesium materials. Magnesium generators, who previously supplied Remacor with recyclable magnesium and magnesium alloys, are removing their materials from the site. Intermet has suspended shipping material until further notice. SPX Contech will be repackaging the remainder of its material in preparation to ship it off site when weather will allow. Hitchcock Industries has been on site to identify their material. Hitchcock will begin removing it when the weather breaks.
EPA’s ERRS contractor Guardian Environmental Services, Inc. (GES) is shipping RAD drums which have been relocated from Building #2 to Building #7. ERRS continues to react material from Building #2. PADEP is providing technical and oversight support at the site. EPA START contractor TechLaw is providing technical and administrative support to the EPA. EPA and PADEP officials continue to control access to the site in addition to coordinating the activities of the various generators.

EPA’s OSC Jack Downie was on site for oversight of activities and site entry. EPA OSC Debbie Lindsey mobilized to site with 1 START and was given a tour of the facility by OSC Downie. OSC Downie and Lindsey demobilized.
ERRS contractor Guardian Environmental, Inc held its morning safety meeting and discussed the days planned activities, areas of concern and safety protocol. ERRS continued to react material from Building 2 in the reaction pit. ERRS dumped the contents of drums marked as “residual waste” into the pit and added water to the material to accelerate a reaction. ERRS reacted approximately 55 drums for the day. Guardian’s subcontractor T.G. Adams and Associate (TGA) continues to scan RAD drums to make sure they are at acceptable limits to be transported on trucks. They are using a Ludlum Model 29 to monitor the drums and 2 Ludlum Model 2929 dual scale instruments to scan the drums. ERRS is assisting TGA by moving pallets and removing banding when necessary so that individual drums can be removed from a pallet and scanned separately with out the interference of other drums.
START assisted the EPA as needed and conducted written/photographic documentation.

ERRS contractor Guardian Environmental, Inc held its morning safety meeting and discussed the days planned activities, areas of concern and safety protocol. ERRS continued to react material from Building 2 in the reaction pit ERRS added the contents of drums marked residual waste into the pit and added water to the material to accelerate the reaction. ERRS workers are using full face respirators any time they are either working the pit or in the vicinity of the reaction pit. ERRS reacted the contents of approximately 60 drums for the day. ERRS also shipped 1 load of RAD material off site. The load consisted of 80 drums @ 4 drums/pallet with an estimated weight of 40,000 pounds. The load was consigned to U S Ecology Idaho, Grand View, ID and transported by S.J. Transportation Company Inc, Woodstown, NJ. T.G. Adams continues to scan RAD drums as well as take swabs of the drums for monitoring.

No PRP activity is presently occurring on site. All PRP removal action has been suspended by the companies until inclement winter weather conditions subside and the weather allows them to resume activities.
T.G. Adams and Associates, Inc plans to ship 4 loads of RAD material on 2/12/08.
EPA will continue to coordinate with magnesium waste generators for the safe and appropriate removal of the material from the site. EPA will continue to coordinate with all local, state, and federal agencies.
The drums located in Building 2 marked as residual waste are being reacted by ERRS. They are being treated as hazardous because the contents of the drums are not known.
