EPA is continuing emergency removal actions at this site during the repackaging, transportation, and removal of flammable magnesium materials. Magnesium generators, who previously supplied Remacor with recyclable magnesium and magnesium alloys, are removing their materials from the site. Intermet has suspended shipping material until further notice. SPX Contech will be repackaging the remainder of its material in preparation to ship it off site when weather will allow. Hitchcock Industries has been on site to identify their material they will begin removing it when the weather breaks.
EPA’s ERRS contractor Guardian Environmental Services, Inc. (GES) is shipping RAD drums which have been relocated from Building #2 to Building #7. ERRS continues to react material from Building #2. PADEP is providing technical and oversight support at the site. EPA START contractor TechLaw is providing technical and administrative support to the EPA. EPA and PADEP officials continue to control access to the site in addition to coordinating the activities of the various generators.

EPA’s OSC Dennis Matlock Mobilized to site for oversight of activities and site entry. EPA OSC Matlock demobilized.
ERRS contractor Guardian Environmental, Inc held its morning safety meeting and discussed the days planned activities, areas of concern and safety issues associated with the day’s activities. ERRS continues to react material from Building 2 in the reaction pit. The ERRS Contractor is adding the contents of drums marked as “residual waste” into the pit and adding water to the material to accelerate a reaction. ERRS reacted approximately 40 drum contents for the day. Guardian’s subcontractor T.G. Adams and Associate (TGA) continues to scan RAD drums to make sure they are at acceptable limits to be transported on over the road trucks. They are using a Ludlum Model 29 to monitor the drums and 2 Ludlum Model 2929 dual scale to scan the swipes of the drums. ERRS is assisting TGA by moving pallets and removing banding when necessary so that individual drums can be removed from a pallet and scanned separately without the interference of nearby drums.
START assisted the EPA as needed and conducted written and photographic documentation. START demobilized.

ERRS continued to react material from Building 2 in the reaction pit. ERRS added the contents of drums marked “residual waste” into the pit and added water to the material to accelerate a reaction. ERRS workers are using full face respirators any time they are either working the pit or in the vicinity of the reaction pit. ERRS has had several small fires in the pit but they are controlled. ERRS reacted the contents of approximately 35 drums for the day.
START assisted as needed and conducted written/photographic documentation. START contracted a surveyor to survey the four monitoring wells on site.
No PRP activity is presently occurring on site. All PRP removal action has been suspended by the companies until inclement winter weather conditions subside and the weather allows the safe resumption of removal activities.
T.G. Adams and Associates, Inc plans to ship 2 loads of RAD material on 2/12/08.
EPA will continue to coordinate with magnesium generators for the safe and appropriate removal of the material from the site. EPA will continue to coordinate with all local, state, and federal agencies.
The drums located in Building 2 marked as residual waste are being reacted by ERRS. These are being treated as hazardous because the contents of the drums are not known.
