EPA is continuing emergency removal actions at this site during the repackaging, transportation, and removal of flammable magnesium materials. Magnesium generators, who previously supplied Remacor with recyclable magnesium and magnesium alloys, are removing their materials from the site. SPX Contech will be on site 4/17/08 to meet with its contractor for availability of repackaging and shipping. Hitchcock Industries contacted the EPA and plans to start repacking and shipping its product the week of 4/21/08. Product Technology Inc and National Machine are on site overseeing the removal of their material.
EPA’s ERRS has completed reacting drums for now and is sifting brick debris left over from the burn piles. PADEP is providing technical and oversight support at the site. EPA START contractor TechLaw is providing technical and administrative support to the EPA. EPA and PADEP officials continue to control access to the site in addition to coordinating the activities of the various generators.

National Machine shipped 1 truckload of material. The load consisted of 54 drums of material with an estimated weight of 13,500 pounds. The load was consigned to VonRoll America Inc, Liverpool, OH and transported by Chemtron Corporation, Avon Lake, OH. National Machine also continued to add vent caps to drums without holes and over-pack drums that were not DOT shippable. National Machine loaded its last load of 35 drums and will remove them on 4/17/08.
Product Technology met with their contractor and began identifying their material. Product Technology will be moving their material to a central location SE of the reaction pit where they will open each drum and inspect the contents.
U.S.EPA OSC Jack Downie mobilized to site for oversight of activities. OSC Downie demobilized.
PADEP Mariruth Hoffman mobilized to site to assist the EPA in oversight. While during a walkthrough with Product Technology PADEP Hoffman and START observed 6 kittens in a drum half full of magnesium with no top. The kittens were not removed. PADEP Hoffman demobilized.
Emergency and Rapid Response Services (ERRS) contractor Guardian Environmental, Inc held its morning safety meeting and discussed the days planned activities, areas of concern / safety issues associated with the day’s activities. ERRS is sifting brick debris and cleaning the site. ERRS is cleaning the site of debris such as broken pallets, sharp metal objects and bbuilt up debris in order to improve safety conditions for site warkers.
START assisted as needed and conducted written/photographic documentation.

Product Technology Inc (PTI) and its contractor moved all drums located on site with their label to a location SE of the reaction pit. PTI inspected each drum for water, holes, and content (turnings were checked to make sure it was consistent with their process). PTI separated the drums into two groups; drums that needed lids and could be shipped in super sacks and those with high water content that would need to be over packed in poly drums.
Elaine Enfonde of Nixon Peabody the parent company of SPX Contech was on site to identify the remainder of their drums. Nixon Peabody also made arrangements with their contractor for the removal of the remaining SPX Contech drums.
PADEP Mariruth Hoffman mobilized to site to assist the EPA in oversight. PADEP Hoffman and START placed the 6 kittens that had been observed in a drum half full of magnesium on 4/15/08 in a cardboard box because the drum had to be removed by Product Technology. The box was lined with kitty litter and placed in the vacinity of the drum they were moved from so the mother could find them. PADEP Hoffman demobilized.

EPA will continue to coordinate with magnesium generators for the safe and appropriate removal of the material from the site. EPA will continue to coordinate with all local, state, and federal agencies.
