Site Description
EPA is continuing emergency removal actions at this site during the repackaging, transportation, and removal of flammable magnesium materials.  Magnesium generators, who previously supplied Remacor with recyclable magnesium and magnesium alloys, are removing their materials from the site.  Hitchcock Industries is on site repackaging material belonging to Consolidated Foundries and Teledyne there are no plans at this time to ship Hitchcock material.  SPX Contech has been on site and identified the remainder of its material.  National Machine has shipped its last identified load off site.  Product Technology is making plans to ship its material off site.  

EPA’s ERRS has completed reacting drums for now and is sifting brick debris left over from the burn piles.  PADEP is providing technical and oversight support at the site.  EPA START contractor TechLaw is providing technical and administrative support to the EPA.  EPA and PADEP officials continue to control access to the site in addition to coordinating the activities of the various generators.

START attended the morning safety meeting held by Hitchcock Industries.  Hitchcock continues to change lids and over-pack its material.  Hitchcock will be taking material marked Teledyne and Consolidated Foundary Inc.  All Hitchcock material on site will be addressed at a later date.

USEPA’s OSC Jack Downie and OSC Marjorie Easton mobilized to site for oversight of activities.

USEPA’s Senior Site Administrative Officer of Removal Program Rich Messimer mobilized to site for administrative oversight.  Rich Messimer demobilized.

PADEP Gary Mechtly Environmental Group Manager of the Environmental Cleanup Program and PADEP Mariruth Hoffman Environmental Chemist I of the Environmental Cleanup Program mobilized to site to assist the EPA in oversight.  PADEP Mechtly and Hoffman also escorted the owner of Remacor, Joe Jackman as he retrieved personal effects from site.  PADEP Mechtly and Hoffman demobilized.

Emergency and Rapid Response Services (ERRS) contractor Guardian Environmental, Inc held its morning safety meeting and discussed the days planned activities, areas of concern / safety issues associated with the day’s activities.  ERRS has moved its cleanup operation to Building #8.  ERRS is gathering all oil drums from the site and bulking the oil into 2 totes and fewer drums.  ERRS will also be cleaning the building as they work.  

START assisted as needed and conducted written/photographic documentation.  

04/25/08
START attended the morning safety meeting held by Hitchcock Industries.  Hitchcock completed over-packing drums and changing the lids.  Hitchcock cleaned the areas where they performed the work and made arrangements to have the old pallets removed from site.


USEPA’s OSC Jack Downie and OSC Marjorie Easton were on site for oversight of activities.  OSC Downie and OSC Easton demobilized.

PADEP Gary Wozniak Emergency Response Program Manager Northeast Field Operations mobilized to site to meet with OSC Downie, OSC Easton, and EPA’s Messimer.  PADEP Wozniak demobilized.

Emergency and Rapid Response Services (ERRS) contractor Guardian Environmental, Inc held its morning safety meeting and discussed the days planned activities, areas of concern / safety issues associated with the day’s activities.  ERRS completed bulking 79 oil drums. ERRS also cleaned equipment left in the building and packaged magnesium flashings gathered from floor and equipment in Building #8.

START assisted the EPA as needed and conducted written/photographic documentation.      



Next Steps
SPX Contech has plans to ship the remainder of its material in the near future.

Product Technology plans to ship its material off site the week of 4/25/08

Hitchcock Industries Inc has plans to begin shipping on the week of 4/25/08.

EPA will continue to coordinate with magnesium waste generators for the safe and appropriate removal of the material from the site.  EPA will continue to coordinate with all local, state, and federal agencies.
