Site Description
EPA is continuing emergency removal actions at this site during the repackaging, transportation, and removal of flammable magnesium materials.  Magnesium generators, who previously supplied Remacor with recyclable magnesium and magnesium alloys, are removing their materials from the site.  Hitchcock Industries has repackaged material belonging to Consolidated Foundries and Teledyne. There are no plans at this time to ship Hitchcock material.  SPX Contech has been on site and identified the remainder of its material.  Intermet is making plans to resume shipping of its material.  

EPA’s ERRS has completed reacting drums for now and is organizing and staging various waste streams. PADEP is providing technical and oversight support at the site.  EPA START contractor TechLaw is providing technical and administrative support to the EPA.  EPA and PADEP officials continue to control access to the site in addition to coordinating the activities of the various generators.

Emergency and Rapid Response Services (ERRS) contractor Guardian Environmental, Inc held its morning safety meeting and discussed the days planned activities, areas of concern / safety issues associated with the day’s activities.  ERRS completed cleanup of Building #8. To date ERRS has gathered 72 waste oil drums and composited the material into 5 totes of 250 gallons each.  ERRS determined it will have between 2,000 and 4,000 gallons of waste oil to dispose of. ERRS is actively seeking bids for the disposal of the waste oil.  

START assisted as needed and conducted written/photographic documentation.  START demobilized.  

04/28/08
START attended the morning safety meeting held by MHF who is doing the contract removal work for various generators. MHF shipped 22 drums of material belonging to Product technology. The estimated weight of the drums was 5,000 pounds and the load was consigned to NIAPRO, Niagara Falls, NY with the transporter being Envirirte of OHIO, Canton, OH.  MHF also staged a load of material for Hitchcock Industries.

START mobilized to site, assisted the EPA as needed and conducted written/photographic documentation.      


Next Steps
SPX Contech has plans to ship the remainder of their magnesium material in the near future.

Hitchcock Industries Inc has plans to ship a load off site 4/29/08.

EPA will continue to coordinate with magnesium waste generators for the safe and appropriate removal of the material from the site.  EPA will continue to coordinate with all local, state, and federal agencies.
