EPA is continuing emergency removal actions at this site during the repackaging, transportation, and removal of flammable magnesium materials. Magnesium generators, who previously supplied Remacor with recyclable magnesium and magnesium alloys, are removing their materials from the site. SPX Contech has been on site and identified the remainder of its material and is preparing drums to be shipped off site. Intermet is re –working pallets and drums and is actively shipping material off site.
EPA’s ERRS is repackaging material in Building #2 to make it DOT shippable and reacting material from Building #2 and Building #9. PADEP is providing technical and oversight support at the site. EPA START contractor TechLaw is providing technical and administrative support to the EPA. EPA and PADEP officials continue to control access to the site in addition to coordinating the activities of the various generators.

05/27/08 START attended the morning safety meeting held by MHF Logistics who is contracting for intermet, SPX Contech, and Product Technology. MHF continued to change lids and pallets on SPX Contech material. MHF overpacked magnesium material belonging to Intermet into 85-gallon polyurethane drums.
START mobilized to site assisted as needed and conducted written/photographic documentation.
05/28/08 START attended the morning safety meeting held by MHF who is contracting for Intermet, SPX Contech, and Product Technology. MHF resumed shipment of Intermet material. MHF shipped 2 truckloads of Intermet material which consisted of 26 pallets @ 4 drums per pallet and 11 pallets @ 8 drums per pallet and had a combined weight of 80,480 pounds. The loads were consigned to Speedway Global Services Buffalo, NY and were transported by Hazmat Environmental Buffalo, NY.

PADEP Mariruth Hoffman mobilized to site and assisted the EPA in oversight of activities. PADEP Hoffman demobilized.
Emergency and Rapid Response Services (ERRS) contractor Guardian Environmental, Inc held its morning safety meeting and discussed the days planned activities. ERRS added material from Building #9 into the reaction pit in order to neutralize it for future shipment off site. To date ERRS has reacted the contents of 2,046 drums of residual waste material. START assisted the EPA as needed and conducted written/photographic documentation.
SPX Contech has changed its plans to ship the remainder of its material in the near future.
Intermet has plans to continue to ship material off site until they have completed shipping all their material.
EPA will continue to coordinate with magnesium waste generators for the safe and appropriate removal of the material from the site. EPA will continue to coordinate with all local, state, and federal agencies.
