Site Description
EPA is continuing emergency removal actions at this site during the repackaging, transportation, and removal of flammable magnesium materials.  Lavigne Manufacturing Inc is making plans to remove magnesium material off site.  The EPA is making plans to repackage material to make it stable and accessible for the remainder of the generators who wish to remove their material.      

EPA’s ERRS is repackaging the remainder of drums on site. PADEP is providing technical and oversight support at the site. EPA START contractor TechLaw is providing technical and administrative support to the EPA.  EPA and PADEP officials continue to control access to the site in addition to coordinating the activities of the various generators.

USEPA OSC Jack Downie was on site for oversight of activities.

USEPA OSC Marjorie Easton mobilized to site for oversight of activities

USEPA Civil Investigator PRP Investigation and site Information Section Carlyn Prisk was on site for a meeting with Energy Solutions, PADEP, and Taylor Township.

PADEP Eric Gustafson Regional Manager Environmental Cleanup Program, Erin K. Wells Community Revitalization Consultant, Delvy McElwain Radiation Health Physicist Radiation Protection Program, Dwight Shearer P. E. Chief Radioactive Materials Section, and Mariruth Hoffman Environmental Chemist I Environmental Cleanup Program mobilized to site for a meeting with Energy Solutions.

Dave Allegro Taylor Township was on site for the meeting.

A meeting was held with Energy Solutions Bryan Melchoir V.P., Edward Doubleday Senior V.P., Lee Penney V.P. Remediation & Decommissioning Services, and Gregory McGinnis V.P. Commercial Decommissioning Services.  In attendance were USEPA, PADEP, Taylor Township, and START.  Energy Solutions was gathering information and evaluating the site for possible future cleanup and purchase of the property form the County who is the Trustee.  

Emergency and Rapid Response Services (ERRS) contractor Guardian Environmental, Inc held its morning safety meeting and discussed the days planned activities. ERRS continues to repackage drums of magnesium to be shipped off site at a later date.  ERRS repackaged 120 drums for the day.  

START assisted as needed and conducted written/photographic documentation.  START demobilized.

PADEP Mariruth Hoffman mobilized to site and assisted the EPA in oversight.  PADEP Hoffman demobilized.

Emergency and Rapid Response Services (ERRS) contractor Guardian Environmental, Inc held its morning safety meeting and discussed the days planned activities.  ERRS continued repackaging material from non-DOT shippable drums into 55-gallon vented DOT shippable drums.  ERRS repackaged 80 drums for the day.  ERRS also repackaged the remainder of the RAD material and the drums were checked by START.  
  
START assisted the EPA as needed and conducted written/photographic documentation.          



Next Steps
Lavigne Manufacturing is making plans to remove magnesium material off site.

EPA will continue to coordinate with magnesium waste generators for the safe and appropriate removal of the material from the site.  EPA will continue to coordinate with all local, state, and federal agencies.
