Site Description
EPA continues its emergency removal action at this site which currently involves the repackaging, transportation, and removal of flammable magnesium materials. EPA continues to implement repackaging and plan staging of the materials which will increase the materials’ stability as well as make it accessible for disposal from site or retrieval by the initial generators.      

EPA’s ERRS contractor is repackaging the remainder of deteriorated drums on site. PADEP is overseeing site activities for the State and providing support. EPA START contractor TechLaw is providing technical and administrative support to the EPA. EPA and PADEP officials continue to control access to the site as well as coordinate activities with the various generators.

Emergency and Rapid Response Services (ERRS) contractor Guardian Environmental Services, Inc. held its morning safety meeting and discussed the days planned activities. ERRS continued repackaging material from deteriorated containers into new drums and staging them in Building #2. ERRS continued hazard-categorization testing of waste materials in small containers scattered throughout the site.  Categorized material was separated by waste stream in preparation for transportation and disposal from the site.  ERRS also conducted standard maintenance and house-keeping activities throughout the site.

START provided technical assistance, contractor oversight and written and photographic documentation during field activities.

08/15/08
ERRS held its morning safety meeting and discussed the days planned activities. ERRS continued repackaging deteriorated drums of magnesium materials. These drums are being staged in Building #2.  ERRS completed the hazard-categorization of wastes and the two  chemists demobed from the site. ERRS also conducted maintenance and house-keeping activities on site as required.  

START provided technical assistance, contractor oversight and written and photographic documentation during field activities.



Next Steps
ERRS will continue redrumming waste from badly corroded containers. ERRS will arrange for disposal of waste materials in building 9.
