The Site is a used oil processing facility with several above-ground storage tanks, a maintenance and laboratory facility, a wastewater treatment plant, and an office building (Figure 3). The Site is currently owned by the Village of McCook, which acquired the property through the purchase of tax certificates and subsequent foreclosure.
The Village of McCook contacted EPA and indicated that a discharge valve on Tank 101 was leaking and caused a large volume of liquid to go into the secondary containment area around the tank. Based on measurements collected during the April 5, 2019 sampling event, new estimates suggest that there are 185,325 gallons of liquid material and 35,986 gallons of sludge in the tank.
