Weber County Health and Utah DEQ requested EPA assistance on 8/31/2022 to conduct an assessment on an open space area where a homeless individual has been habitating and panning for gold.  The individual was detained by the Ogden Police Department and had elemental mercury in their possession.  EPA will ensure the area is safe and the presence of mercury is no longer detected.  Mercury is toxic and inhalation of it's vapour is known for its harmful effects on the central nervous system.
